Social Communication
We’ve made it through our first 2 weeks back to school over here! The beginning of the school year always brings change, and the first few weeks can be an adjustment for our kids. As we’re kicking off another school year, Ms. Angelica is on the blog today to talk about social communication!
Social communication is what allows someone to communicate or interact with others in different situations! It can include tone, conversation style, body language, eye contact, memory, and lots of other things. Every person communicates with other people in a different way and social understanding is what helps build the relationships between people. Think of it like this: you meet someone new and immediately become friends! You both understood each other and were able to meet halfway to form a relationship.
What if I have a hard time making friends?
That’s okay! Some people have a hard time. There is nothing wrong with you or your social communication. Sometimes people can’t meet in the middle. Here are some tips for understanding your own style:
Think about how you feel comfortable communicating (this includes body orientation, eye contact, etc.) - if you’re comfortable with it, you can tell the person you’re speaking with!
Think about how your body felt during the conversation
Ask yourself: Is there anything you think you’d like to do differently next time?
Think about if you care to know more about certain things the person is saying; this can help you continue the conversation!
Remember, there is no right way to communicate!
